i have been a lover of pancakes my whole life, especially cracker barrel's blueberry ones. those and french toast. i could literally eat those two things every day and be happy forever. when i was flipping through this book though, i knew i had to try the banana-blueberry protein pancake recipe that stared me in the face, but thought i could be disappointed because i would compare them to my favorite ones. obviously these could not possibly be tasty because they were healthy, right?! wrong. these are simply amazing.

when i have the time, i eat these every single morning i don't have to work. i stay full all morning which is great and they are also loaded with protein and fruit, which helps. no, they're not calorie, gluten, or carb free....but at least they don't come from a box and i would consider them good for you. unfortunately i do add maybe a half tsp of butter and a few strips of syrup for extra sweetness, not going overboard.

here is the recipe.

<span style="font-family: Times,"Times New Roman",serif;">ingredients.

1/2 cup rolled oats
1/4 cup fat-free ricotta
4 large egg whites
1/2 mashed banana
1/8 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 blueberries (i cut mine in half so they stay in better)

<span style="font-family: Times,"Times New Roman",serif;">directions.

spray a large skillet with nonstick cooking spray and heat over medium heat. mix all ingredients together well except the blueberries. i tend to do all the wet ingredients first and add the oats last and then the blueberries. when the skillet is hot, pour 3 or 4 separate dollops of batter to form pancakes. cook over medium heat for about 90 seconds or so, flipping once.

and that's it.

i'll give you another secret from this book. drink a glass of water before each meal and you won't eat as much. i have been such a huge fan of bob harper for years since i watched the biggest loser way back when. i don't have time now, but the few seasons i did watch were amazing. i love bob and i think he's great. this book is awesome and i think i'm going to share more of it sometime because it has awesome tips that aren't just for weight loss, but for overall health for life!

hope you enjoy these as much as i do.

this week i participated in a blog series, what summer means to me, with a group of pretty cool girls. of course when i think of summer, i think of all the usual things that it brings like vacations, sunblock, sand, watermelon, and sunshine, but the first thing that pops into my head is beauty!

i wanted to feature a pretty, summer look that's easy to pull off and looks good on just about any skin color. during the summer, i like to keep my face pretty free of foundation because it can be heavy so all i typically use is tinted moisturizer with some bronzer.

a glowy look is something i like to go for, so matte is a look i don't try to achieve in the summertime. luckily i have pretty normal to dry skin, so i can pull this off without having to use a powder. as for the eyes, any color will do, but for this look here i did a brown/bronze look. i used brown satin shadow topped with a champagne color, brown pot liner, white in the waterline, and black mascara. lips are a medium pink color, which is not something i normally wear. i would have typically worn a nude color with this, but i felt it needed a bit of added color and i liked this color pretty well.

all in all, this look can be worn in a ton of different ways by changing just a few things: a nude lip instead of pink, less eyeshadow and more of a naked eye with bold lips, or even a natural look with only mascara and gloss.

what did you think of this look?

i have had people ask me when i am going to start blogging again and i'm going to commit starting now. i feel so much better mentally when i blog i have realized.

when i got my iphone back in the fall, blogging kind of took a backseat to instagram, and still does. if i had as many blog posts as i do instagram ones, i'd be doing very well. sadly, that's not the case but it should be. i think with ig, it's just much easier and faster, more fun, and not sure what else. but i can't neglect my cute little blog.

let's see, i'm sure there are a million things that have happened since i blogged last. no not really, but i guess i did get a new small flash drive so i can take pictures again and have a way to upload them to my computer since my ext. hard drive broke and that's ultimately the reason i stopped blogging in the first place. it infuriated and saddened me. still does, really. um, warm weather is here, praise jesus. i have a couple upcoming trips in june that i'm excited for {right, dad? (: } i've really become into watercolor painting and love it more than any other hobby i have ever done. it's so much fun and is a great form of relaxation for me. i will post some more of my stuff soon.

this week i will be participating with a group of girls about what we love about summer, so i'm looking forward to that especially! summer is full of sunshine and mostly happiness for me, so i am really looking forward to it!

i think that's about it for now. more to come soon, so stay tuned!

something that makes me happier than anything on earth. traveling.

i have two trips coming up in june that i could not be more happy about. i think it's becoming an annual trip to visit my cousin in florida, which is fine by me. i'll spend time with her and then we have a concert planned to see tritonal. we are about the only two people that we both know that are obsessed with edm, so it's just going to be us.

then i'm also going to a family reunion in vegas with my dad and sister. seriously, who has a reunion in vegas. we do. can't wait. part reunion, part party.

i'm off today. drinking coffee, listening to tritonal, clmd, and whatever other edm pops up. probably paint a few things and who knows what else. that's the beauty of a day off (:

it's as simple as that. a small little gesture can make all the difference in someone's day.

i challenge you to smile at at least 3 strangers every day for about a week and see if you notice a difference in how you feel. you know the person you smile at will feel better, therefore i bet you will too. i know that i don't smile enough and i think the world in general doesn't either. it seems we, as a whole, less happy and more negative than we used to be.

i am on a mission for myself to smile more and i would like others to do the same.

hope you'll join me (:
i do apologize for my lack of posts lately.

Instagram has been taking over my social media life lately. i seem to go there when i want to post something, anything. this isn't a 'come follow me' post or anything like at all, i am just saying that i haven't forgotten about my old blog and i really, really want to be back here soon.

i have found that with my absence, i have almost forgotten how to write. when i was thinking of something to post, i could hardly come up with a beginning sentence. i still don't even know what to say.

it also doesn't help that my hard drive still isn't fixed, therefore i have no motivation to take pictures, it won't quit snowing, and i long for days like the one below where the weather is warm and we can be carefree. i am just a happier person when the weather is nice, as are most people.

so basically, sorry that i haven't been around. don't go away or forget about the dream tree, ok? there will be good things again. life, food, makeup, and whatever else there used to be, i promise (:
i love being a nurse for a lot of reasons, but just the stories they tell me and the things i see amaze me. someday i am going to forget, so i decided i am going to document some of what i hear and see. it all varies from serious, ornery, sick, and funny. no day is ever the same, obviously.

my patients make me feel good when they tell me that i am an angel or i am the reason they made it through the day, but i also have the most thankless job when i am screamed at, used like a drug dealer, maid, and whatever else you might think of. no matter what, it is a pretty cool job and i really like most of the people i take care of. so, here are just a couple things i noticed the last couple of days. who knows what i may see and hear tomorrow!

1) turpentine and castor oil will take away aches and pains if you mix 3:1 parts and rub it on the part that is bothering you. it doesn't smell good at all, but it will make you feel better.

2) god is what makes a marriage stay strong and keeps it together. without him, it will not last.

3) heroin makes you feel like you are snuggling on the couch with your boyfriend for 7 hours and makes you feel warm, fuzzy, and totally relaxed.

4) do what makes you happy like jumping out of airplanes, shooting guns, and drinking beer, when you're eighty-five!

5) a person can live for a week sitting in exactly the same spot, oh say a recliner, if one has a stocked cooler next to them- that's all that person needs. may not be pleasant after that one week (if you know what i mean) but it can be done, and one will survive.

6) a man's scrotum can really get to be the size of a small cantaloupe!
not sure if you're in blizzard like conditions where you live, but we haven't had snow like this since i've been alive i don't think. right now it's as white as my eyes can see and we have about a foot of snow! that's a lot for us.

when we are stowed up inside for days and can't leave, what else is there to do besides blog, hang out, and eat, right?! well i make this a few times a year and this recipe makes for the perfect snowy day supper. it's pretty low in calories, hearty, and keeps me warm. i should've posted sooner because i know others are in the same position, but if you have these items on hand, there is still time to make today or even tomorrow. go ahead, you will be happy you did!

so today is the last day of the year. three hundred and sixty-five days since we last had a new year. that seems like a long time ago, but then again it seems as though it has flown by, right?!

time is literally going by so fast that it makes me panic. this year was a decent year for me. health wise it was good for myself and family so i cannot complain in that aspect, but for me mentally it was pretty rough. i am hoping this next year is much better. people who are very healthy mentally do not realize how mental health affects overall wellbeing and life of someone who struggles. because i had a lot going on with my emotions and thoughts, it affected every.single.freaking.day.of.spring.summer.fall.and.winter. whew.

i definitely had awesome days, but there were also lots of other awful days thrown in there that probably affected my family as well. life isn't easy and i know we all have our issues, but i am one that handles my negativity differently that lot unfortunately. thank god for medication, but i also need to learn some coping mechanisms and new skills in a few areas.

although i mentioned how dreary the year was, i thought of five great things that did happen. sure there are many more, but these happened to just pop into my head first!

1 - getaway to jamaica and florida.
2 - parents moving to a new house.
3 - getting a new car.
4 - finding new creative outlets.
5 - chopping off my hair & getting a new tattoo.

<span style="font-family: Times,"Times New Roman",serif;">enjoy today and be safe if you go out tonite. remember not to drink and drive (:

<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Rimmel ScandalEyes Retro Glam

since 2009 i have been on the hunt for a mascara to fall in love with, as my favorite had been discontinued. i have talked about this before and have run across a few that i have liked quite a bit, one that i did fall for, and lots that i have thrown away mid use.

i have used rimmel mascara before and liked it so when i tried this particular one, i had high expectations. it was actually better than i thought. for one, i always use black. in fact, i have to because my lashes are so light that i look like a corpse with naked lashes or any color besides black. this black was like jet black and bold. killer. loved it. also, i loved the formula. it went on super easy, was not clumpy and i only had to use about two coats. it never flaked throughout the day and washed off without any makeup remover.

the brush is pretty unique as well because of the hour-glass shape and the way it grabbed all the lashes. the only thing i didn't like about the shape when i applied to my bottom lashes, but that is just me. typically i have to use a small brush because i end up touching my skin and i also had to apply lots of coats to achieve the look i was going for.

all in all i would give this 5 out of 5 stars.

i have never made a pot of coffee in my life, therefore i have no clue how to. i have had the last several days off and sh has been kind enough to grind the beans and start the coffee for me so it's good to go when i wake up. i decided that it's time i learn how to do this on my own.

i went to the store and browsed the coffee aisle picking up a bag of ground coffee, knowing that would be the easiest. i was actually quite impressed with how well i did. the only hard part is trying to measure the parts out equally because the directions go off 6 oz and not a glass, so i just have to guesstimate.

for some reason, i have become a coffee fanatic. before our trip to jamaica, my friend got me hooked on lattes, then i got addicted to the world famous blue mountain jamaican coffee, and since we've run out, i've been using similar stuff around here. my body is fairly sensitive to caffeine anyway + with the medications i take, but i drink several cups a day and have to now. it's crazy! i am now pretty much burned out on lattes and only like my coffee with milk.

now since i know how to make coffee in my pot, i'm afraid that i am going to become a junkie, haha. good lord, watch out world.
my external hard drive crashed.

i am literally sick to my stomach. i stayed at my sister's last nite and brought my hard drive and computer with me so i could edit and complete my cousin's senior pics. i was working at the table when dutch walked by and pulled the cords making everything crash onto the tiled floor. ugh, what a terrible sound.

so yeah. my whole life is on that drive. itunes, every single picture i have taken with my dslr. senior pics, wedding pics, vacations, life. everything for my blog, too.

hopefully something can be done about it. until then, i have to revert back to the old ways i guess of saving things, which i can't remember how, haha!

back to the sick to my stomach feeling . . .

for the last year i have been making jewelry, but over the last month or so i have really kicked it up a notch and made a lot more. i also have started to get into watercolor painting. i have no idea what i'm doing really, but it is so much fun. here are a few pics of some of the things i have been doing.

the jewelry is fun to make. the hardest part is trying to come up with designs and patterns to create, but sh helps a lot and he is actually very good at making pieces. he has made several and honestly, i think they are probably better than any i have done. some of these are his and some are mine.

i have to say that i do like the painting more though. i set up a little spot on the counter, turn on my edm, and go to town. i tune out everything else in the world and just paint away. it really is good for my mind and it is therapy for me. i just wish i had more time to do it instead of like once a week. there are a couple other pieces i have done that i really love. i think i may frame them and find a spot on the wall.

i bought myself a watercolor book and know i'm getting a beginner thing for christmas, so i hope to actually learn how to do things instead of just trial and error, but regardless, it's fun and i love it (:

not sure about where you all live, but here in the midwest, the weather is ridiculous. well, i guess i should say the temperature really is, the weather has not been too bad really. i don't think i have ever disliked the cold as much as i have right now.

it is definitely sweater weather, but i pretty much refuse to wear anything but tanks and cardigans or jackets, or something of the like. i just don't like things touching my arms really, especially heavy, scratchy material like wool. sure a cozy fleece or sweater is nice every now and again, but i get so tired of getting bundled up and having to drag a heavy winter coat with me everywhere i go. not saying i always dress this way, but i just hate dressing too warm.

who else is with me on this.

i know a lot of bloggers live around arizona and out west where it is still warm enough to wear summer clothes and i am so envious. the only downfall to that is that i cannot imagine having the winter holidays in that type of environment because it would seem so strange to me, but i am not used to that.

we were hoping to live in florida this time next year so this was going to be my last cold fall/winter around these parts, but not sure if those plans are still going as planned, so we will see. all i know is, i better just get used to it because i still have about 4 more months of this! for some reason i can tolerate the cold temps if there is snow on the ground, but we don't get as much as we used to . . .

anyway, i'm actually planning on wearing a purple long sleeved cardigan on thanksgiving and if not an orange 3/4 length sheer type shirt, with an infinity scarf, maybe - highs are around 35....blech. food will make that all seem better though (:

back when i started my blog a couple years ago i originally called it, my lively mind, as some of you may remember, because my mind was flooded with way too many thoughts, emotions, and nonsense. like most bloggers, it was a place i would use for an outlet for all of those things consuming my brain, but rarely did i use it to express those personal feelings. instead it became a place to document recipes, beauty and hair obsessions, and other lifestyle stuff, which is fine, but not really what i had intended.

i think i'm going to change things up a bit on the ol blog. i want to use it as way to vent and get those things off my chest when i have something bothering me, need advice, or a thought on my mind. there are a couple things in mind already, but it's finding time between work and everything else that is going on. excuses, excuses, i know.

therefore i am holding myself accountable because i have really been slacking on my blog over the last few months and have missed it. it makes me feel better mentally when i keep up with it and also knowing that people miss the posts and pictures that are published.

happy tuesday and happy week.
why didn't someone tell me how addicting instagram would be?! my old phone couldn't get instagram so when i upgraded to the new iphone, you had better bet that was the first app i downloaded.

of course it's just like facebook used to be, checking it every ten minutes to see who has a new picture up, what kind of adventure one may be on, what the latest selfie looks like, or if i have any recent likes or comments.

i love it though, but it really is another social media addiction that i did not need in my life. i know i'm just like everyone else and get too consumed in everything and i hate that, but i love having a peek into people's lives.

it just amazes me where technology is and i do not even want to imagine where we will be in even five years, wondering what our smartphones will be capable of.

my profile, if you want a deeper peek into my life, and i'd love to see into yours (:
a couple of days ago i saw this cute magnet at cracker barrel with a sweet inspirational message on it. i'm always looking for uplifting messages that speak to me and i liked this one. here's what it said:

<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier, monospace;">believe in yourself and all you want to be.

<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier, monospace;">don't let what other people say or do make you frown.

<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier, monospace;">laugh as much as possible.

<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier, monospace;">let in the good times and get through the bad.

<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier, monospace;">the longer you practice the habit of working toward your dreams, the easier the journey will become.

<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier, monospace;">you were meant for great things.

last summer i moved away from home (a whopping 45 minutes) and that was a pretty big deal for my family (right, dad?!). we are super, super close and most people think we're nuts and probably abnormal for how close we really are, but for unmentionable and mentionable reasons, i just had to get away. i still see everyone all the time so it's like i am not really even gone, however sometimes it feels like i'm a million miles away.

i moved to a city that has more than quadruple the people as my hometown, so it's a huge change, although where i live now is where i have spent my whole life shopping, eating, and hanging out, as i was growing up

last week while my parents were on vacation, i went back home and went on a ride with my grandma & grandpa. a ride consists of getting in their truck, driving through mcdonald's to get coffee, and driving through the countryside for an hour looking at wildlife, new happenings, what's going on in the county, and whatnot.

this particular outing i got really homesick. i am sure part of it was the fact my parents were gone, but i just missed living so close to my family and everything back home. below is a list of a few things i jotted down that i missed. i know there are probably a ton of others, but these came to mind.

i'm sure i'll never move back, but the 30 years i lived there were pretty great.

being around my parents, sisters, and grandparents mostly.

just two minutes from the only grocery store in town.

the local farmers market.

my old walking route.

a hometown pharmacy.

seeing my old house.

knowing my dogs are buried there.

all the old memories.

the special deals you get from people knowing who you are.

five minute drive time to anywhere in town.

our prison looking like a mall.

the twin towers.

just driving around town.

7000 people.

2 stoplights.

seeing people you know, as annoying as it is at the same time.

so only one more post on summer, and then i promise i'll move on to the next season. i'm still not ready to give up my beloved summer and adjust to the chilly temps. sure, bonfires, boots, scarves, and hoodies are nice, but so is warmth, tanks, and sunshine!

since my hair is so blonde, it's super susceptible to damage from summer and my light skin, as well. i took some new products on my trip that seriously saved my skin and hair from the summer elements - sunshine, salt water, and paradise. my hair is used to being washed every few days, but i had to wash it every single day and was a bit worried on how it would work out . . . perfect, really. i also slather myself with lotion daily, but i knew i was going to have to kick it up a notch. i never really did get a burn the whole 8 days.

below is a pic of me about halfway through the trip, sunkissed, but hair and skin are still protected and healthy.

this is a rather new line of hair products from arbonne. since i am a consultant, i am a bit biased, but i fell in love with these. i was saving them for my trip so hadn't used the product line yet. they were magnificent. the shampoo and conditioner left my hair silky soft, the masque was great for when my hair felt like straw, and the mousse gave it bounce for the evening.

these two products were amazing as well. the first is a prep and protect spray that i had received in one of my beauty boxes a couple of months back. i took it because it was a small bottle, but i also knew i needed everything i could to help my hair. i applied after washing and even when i was on the beach.

the paul mitchell after-sun masque has to be one of my new favorite products, ever. the smell is amazing, like a fresh summery smell, but my hair felt so good after i used it. luckily i still have some left, so i can use it throughout winter for when my locks get dried out.

this lotion was a godsend. i saved this for my trip as well and i was so impressed with it. i just coated my body in it after i came in from the sun and it prevented my skin from drying out while soothing the small amount of redness i got. i never did get burned on the trip because i applied sunscreen, then reapplied, and reapplied some more throughout the day.

i know summer is virtually over, but these are fantastic products. if you go on a trip this winter or even want to use some of these during the cold months ahead, i guarantee you will be happy with them. all are probably still available, however the paul mitchell sun line may not be.

let me know if you've tried any of these and what you thought of them!

goodbye, summer

jamaica.

that's the little island of warmth, sunshine, rasta, and love that i visited a couple of weeks ago and why i've been so absent from the blog world. i just did not have time to schedule posts before i left and was too busy when i got home. here is a little snippet of the trip along with some pics. i know i'll be looking back at these throughout the next several months when we're all stoved up inside this winter.

at the beginning of september SH, myself, my two sisters, and the boyfriend took a getaway to mobay. we have been a few times before and since we're all in love with the island, we decided it was a perfect end of summer destination. originally it was for our 5th anniversary, but then it turned into a trip for the sisters and men.

it was simply fabulous. our resort was excellent. liquor dispenser in the room along with a fridge that's restocked every other day, all the food one can scarf down, and all the drinks a person can consume make for a pretty sweet getaway, not to mention it was very budget friendly.

the cuture is fascinating, reggae is addicting, and the blue waters are inviting.

each day we basically got up, ate breakfast at the buffet, while drinking delicious blue mountain coffee, and spent the day at the beach soaking up the sun with drinks in our hands. honestly most of the time it was water because it was so hot, but we had an occasional ocean dream or daquiri (or five) each beach day.

when it rained most afternoons, we headed to our rooms to nap, hang out together, or head to lobby to people watch. each nite was pretty relaxed and revolved around more food and nitely entertainment.

seven nites just isn't long enough for me. the resort has lots and lots of europeans and did you know they get at least, at least, 8 weeks of vacation a year. most of them are at resorts for two to three weeks. there was definitely a bit of envy and jealousy coming from our group.

it was definitely a much needed vacation that was a trip one has to take to understand. jamaica is like no other place i have been and i have been ready to head back as soon as i shut the door to our room for the last time.

until next time, ja. . .

The trends for this upcoming Fall season are already
spreading across blogs like wildfire. I am so excited to be shopping for these comfy
and cute items and wanted to share which ones I've got my eye on!

I know many trends rotate through but I've never seen thesweatshirt cropping up before. I am especially glad about that one and am
anxious to sweep the racks for the coziest version and maybe score a few in a
larger size for extra comfort.

Leopard prints have always been a favorite of mine and think
they add that extra pop of interest to an outfit concealed in neutrals. These flats are so perfect for a day out shopping and would work well with white skinny jeans and chambray top. Of course, a leopard print scarf, cute navy dress and brown leather boots would look fabulous too.

Not to mention this moto jacket which would take any outfit from simple to chic.
have you ever heard of the site, kickstarter? i hadn't until sh got me a pair of vegan shoes from there and i fell in love with the site. i have spent countless hours perusing all the products and things that people are trying to get funded. basically the site is a way to get projects funded by people pledging & backing what they like. there are different levels of pledging, therefore the more you pledge, the more stuff you get.

most of you know that i'm all about dogs, so one of my favorites that i have found is this dog breed t-shirt one. they need your help, though. there are about 20 days left and as you can see, they are in need of more funding. go check out their page with all the different breeds & shirt colors.

i'm really, really hoping that they meet their goal because i am obsessed with the lab shirts. i also like the great dane, boston terrier, and chihuahua. so cute!

let me know what you think and if you back them!

dutch and i thank you in advance (:

<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier, monospace;">i was not compensated for this post in any way. i did this because i really want one of these cute shirts!
i had seen this poem floating around on facebook for a while and loved what it stood for. dogs are one of my biggest passions in life - they have been around me my whole life, i can't imagine life without one, and i think they are one of life's greatest blessings. if you are a dog lover like me, then you know what i'm talking about. it's ok if you don't, but i have to say you are missing out!

<span style="font-family: Times,"Times New Roman",serif;">from time to time people tell me, 'it's just a dog,' or 'that's a lot of money for just a dog.' they don't understand the distance traveled, time spent, or costs involved for 'just a dog.' some of my proudest moments have come about from 'just a dog.' many hours have passed with my only company being 'just a dog' and not once have i felt slighted. some of my saddest moments have been brought about by 'just a dog.' in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of 'just a dog' provided comfort and purpose to overcome the day.

<span style="font-family: Times,"Times New Roman",serif;">if you too think it's 'just a dog,' you will probably understand phrases like 'just a friend,' 'just a sunrise,' or 'just a promise.' 'just a dog' brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy, the compassion, and patience that makes me a better person. because of 'just a dog,' i will rise early, take long walks, and look longingly into the future.

<span style="font-family: Times,"Times New Roman",serif;">for me and folks like me, it's not 'just a dog.' it's an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment. 'just a dog' brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.

<span style="font-family: Times,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Times,"Times New Roman",serif;">i hope that someday people can understand that it's not 'just a dog.' it's the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being 'just a man or a woman.'

<span style="font-family: Times,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Times,"Times New Roman",serif;">so the next time you hear, 'just a dog,' smile, because they 'just don't understand.'

one of my new favorite hobbies is making tie dye. i hadn't done it since i was little and decided to make a couple things one day and here is what was created:

aren't they fabulous? i love the way they turned out and it was so much fun to do. i have worn tie dye things since i was about 16 and unfortunately i have seen that it's become pretty mainstream, but i still like it. i feel that with what it represents and the colors, it is a part of my personality. in fact, when i went to the beach in june we used an old, super faded and rather vintage sheet and it was so classic.

i will be taking orders for custom designs in the future so definitely let me know if you would like one.
next on my agenda is a pillowcase, jacket, and something to frame. groovy!
