a summer beauty look. what summer means to me.

happy friday, loves!

this week i participated in a blog series, what summer means to me, with a group of pretty cool girls.  of course when i think of summer, i think of all the usual things that it brings like vacations, sunblock, sand, watermelon, and sunshine, but the first thing that pops into my head is beauty!

i wanted to feature a pretty, summer look that's easy to pull off and looks good on just about any skin color.  during the summer, i like to keep my face pretty free of foundation because it can be heavy so all i typically use is tinted moisturizer with some bronzer.

a glowy look is something i like to go for, so matte is a look i don't try to achieve in the summertime.  luckily i have pretty normal to dry skin, so i can pull this off without having to use a powder. as for the eyes, any color will do, but for this look here i did a brown/bronze look.  i used brown satin shadow topped with a champagne color, brown pot liner, white in the waterline, and black mascara.  lips are a medium pink color, which is not something i normally wear.  i would have typically worn a nude color with this, but i felt it needed a bit of added color and i liked this color pretty well.

all in all, this look can be worn in a ton of different ways by changing just a few things: a nude lip instead of pink, less eyeshadow and more of a naked eye with bold lips, or even a natural look with only mascara and gloss.

what did you think of this look?

Products you would need to complete this look:
- first and foremost, always start out with spf - mine is in my serum and moisturizer
- tinted moisturizer
- light colored bronzer (for the whole face)
- regular bronzer (for contour or apples)
- shimmer powder for highlight
- bronze shadow
- champagne shadow
- espresso gel liner
- black mascara
- white liner (for waterline)
- pink lipstick
- pink lipliner
- gloss if you want

sweater weather.

source
not sure about where you all live, but here in the midwest, the weather is ridiculous.  well, i guess i should say the temperature really is, the weather has not been too bad really.  i don't think i have ever disliked the cold as much as i have right now.

it is definitely sweater weather, but i pretty much refuse to wear anything but tanks and cardigans or jackets, or something of the like.  i just don't like things touching my arms really, especially heavy, scratchy material like wool.  sure a cozy fleece or sweater is nice every now and again, but i get so tired of getting bundled up and having to drag a heavy winter coat with me everywhere i go.  not saying i always dress this way, but i just hate dressing too warm.

who else is with me on this.

i know a lot of bloggers live around arizona and out west where it is still warm enough to wear summer clothes and i am so envious.  the only downfall to that is that i cannot imagine having the winter holidays in that type of environment because it would seem so strange to me, but i am not used to that.

we were hoping to live in florida this time next year so this was going to be my last cold fall/winter around these parts, but not sure if those plans are still going as planned, so we will see.  all i know is, i better just get used to it because i still have about 4 more months of this!  for some reason i can tolerate the cold temps if there is snow on the ground, but we don't get as much as we used to . . .

anyway, i'm actually planning on wearing a purple long sleeved cardigan on thanksgiving and if not an orange 3/4 length sheer type shirt, with an infinity scarf, maybe - highs are around 35....blech.  food will make that all seem better though (:

fall essentials || my soul is the sky

i am thrilled to have a guest post from the lovely, melissa.  she's definitely one of my fav bloggers and i look forward to her posts everyday!  she's trying to get me and everyone else a bit more inspired for fall and here she shows some fun pieces that complete a fall look.

____________________________________________________________________________________________

Hi everyone! I'm Melissa from My Soul is the Sky and I'm delighted to be sharing my Fall Essentials today. There are so many great pieces on trend for the colder months and I've chosen a few of my favorites to feature so I hope you enjoy!

fall forward

The trends for this upcoming Fall season are already spreading across blogs like wildfire. I am so excited to be shopping for these comfy and cute items and wanted to share which ones I've got my eye on!

I know many trends rotate through but I've never seen thesweatshirt cropping up before. I am especially glad about that one and am anxious to sweep the racks for the coziest version and maybe score a few in a larger size for extra comfort.

Leopard prints have always been a favorite of mine and think they add that extra pop of interest to an outfit concealed in neutrals. These flats are so perfect for a day out shopping and would work well with white skinny jeans and chambray top. Of course, a leopard print scarf, cute navy dress and brown leather boots would look fabulous too.

This red hat, this comfy sweatshirt, and this berry color lipstick are all a must and will be great staples when the cold months settle in. Not to mention this moto jacket which would take any outfit from simple to chic.

I hope this list has gotten you a little more excited for Autumn and that you are able to find a few great pieces to wear as well!

tie dye love!

one of my new favorite hobbies is making tie dye.  i hadn't done it since i was little and decided to make a couple things one day and here is what was created:

aren't they fabulous?  i love the way they turned out and it was so much fun to do.  i have worn tie dye things since i was about 16 and unfortunately i have seen that it's become pretty mainstream, but i still like it.  i feel that with what it represents and the colors, it is a part of my personality.  in fact, when i went to the beach in june we used an old, super faded and rather vintage sheet and it was so classic.

i will be taking orders for custom designs in the future so definitely let me know if you would like one.
next on my agenda is a pillowcase, jacket, and something to frame.  groovy!

wore // bright yellow to match the sun.

if you read about our anniversary outing  then you probably saw me wearing this outfit.  i knew it was going to be a hot one that day so i decided to wear this bright yellow tank to coincide with the summer heat, plus i love the way yellow looks with a tan.

it was a comfy, light outfit so it worked well for the day.  racerbacks are my favorite kind of tank, however they are hard to find sometimes.  i got these for about eight bucks so next time i go out, i may pick up a few more.

also i'm pretty new to shorts.  well, not new per se, but since i was young i have always worn jeans throughout the summer, except for on certain occasions.  i'm trying to be better about wearing shorts while my legs are still thin and look somewhat young before i'm seventy and regret it.  these are about as short as i go, too.

anyway, this is my look.  my clothes are pretty simple, as you'll see in most outfit posts, but i think they still look cute.  this was at the end of our day so my hair is basically plastered to my head, dripping sweat, and sticky clothes, but i couldn't pass up the bright flowers.  enjoy.

ootd: a coral wedding

last weekend i attended one of my friend's weddings at a beautiful cathedral in downtown st. louis.  it was also pride weekend so the church and neighborhood were decked out in a variety of rainbow things, but unfortunately i forgot to put my card in my camera so i have nothing. zilch. no pics of the beautiful bride, church, or festivities, but i did stop and grab the card before the reception.

luckily i was able to snap a few pics of the dress i was wearing because i loved it.  like most of my clothes, it was a solid color, but it was so summery and lightweight that i did not want to remove it at the end of the nite.  so glad i purchased it and the sticker price of eighteen bucks made it a hundred times more likeable.

if they say rain on a wedding day is luck, those two are going to have a great marriage.  it was sunny for some of the day and proceeded to pour and storm the rest of the evening.  in between the wedding and reception, the mr and i went to houlihans for wine {blue moon for him} and some apps. it was a great day.

.firmoo eyewear.

i was so delighted when firmoo contacted me about trying out a pair of glasses.  i don't need to wear prescription glasses, but luckily they offer non-prescription & sunglasses as well, so i knew it would be easy to find something i liked. i have been wanting to get a pair of glasses to wear around with certain outfits, so firmoo got a hold of me at the perfect time!

it was so much fun to pick out what i wanted {and overwhelming at the same time} because there are so many different colors and styles to choose from.  unfortunately i'm not too into the big dorky glasses or black rimmed so i chose this beautiful pair of tortoise shell frames. plus, brown just goes better with my skin tone than black does and also with more of my outfits.

one cool thing about choosing the glasses is that they offer a virtual try-on.  they have models to use or you can even upload a picture of yourself.  unfortunately i didn't do either, but i should have at least checked it out just to see how it worked.  fail on my part.

another cool thing is their new program called, first pair free, because like it says, your first pair of prescription or non-prescription is FREE!  they also offer free shipping world wide - really, how often does that happen with online shopping.

the consensus:  the glasses are way too big for my face.  like i said above, i should have utilized the virtual try-on and then i would have chosen smaller glasses.  i was so impressed with the quality of the glasses because for being non-prescription, they were sturdy and not that flimsy plastic you get with other style glasses.  they even came with a nice, soft cleaning cloth in a durable, lovely case. firmoo was super easy to work with and the service i used was great. for all the dream tree readers, firmoo is offering their first pair free program, so go snatch up a pair of prescription, non-prescription, or sunglasses in tons of different styles like the dork, aviator, square, or even oval frames!

the glasses actually fit him a lot better than they did me, so who knows, we can get double action with these!

if you have any questions about anything, let me know or contact firmoo by clicking here.

indian summer outfit and a dream pendant.

Yesterday was probably the last warm, beautiful day we are going to have until, oh, maybe April.  I sure wish it wasn't true, but 85 for the end of October is pretty sweet.

Luckily I had the day off so we were able to enjoy most of the day.  Eric and I ate lunch together at Panera and then headed to Target for groceries.  While we were there, Eric found a necklace he thought I needed.  Since dream is a word that portrays so much of my life, I needed to add another piece to the collection, ha!  The necklace is simple, yet it just has this power that I love.  I love the small moon combined with the purple.
The card it came on had a great quote about dreams.

Shoot for the moon.  Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.

I also am not a fashion blogger by any means, but I have my own sense of unique style. While it's not always trendy or something you'd find in Vogue, it works.

Even in the summer I wear jeans and rarely will I be in shorts.  I almost wore shorts yesterday because I wanted the last warm day to go out with a bang, however I couldn't bring myself to do it and opted for capris.  Tanks are a staple in my wardrobe and most days you can find me in one.  They are by far my favorite top, period.

 Tanks: Target
Capris: Levi's jeans I cut off
Shoes: flowered Toms
Sunnies: Ray Ban
Bracelets: handmade by me

Well, that was kind of fun.  I may have to do another ootd when I'm not wearing scrubs the whole week!

Indian summers can't last forever I know, but this summer girl is definitely going to miss the sun + warm temps when they're gone.  People think I'm crazy when I tell them my plan is to move to Florida, but the thought of shivering for months on end does not appeal to me.

Until next time,
Enjoy the warmth if you've got it.
