i'll take milk with my coffee, please.

i have never made a pot of coffee in my life, therefore i have no clue how to.  i have had the last several days off and sh has been kind enough to grind the beans and start the coffee for me so it's good to go when i wake up.  i decided that it's time i learn how to do this on my own.

i went to the store and browsed the coffee aisle picking up a bag of ground coffee, knowing that would be the easiest.  i was actually quite impressed with how well i did.  the only hard part is trying to measure the parts out equally because the directions go off 6 oz and not a glass, so i just have to guesstimate.

for some reason, i have become a coffee fanatic.  before our trip to jamaica, my friend got me hooked on lattes, then i got addicted to the world famous blue mountain jamaican coffee, and since we've run out, i've been using similar stuff around here.  my body is fairly sensitive to caffeine anyway + with the medications i take, but i drink several cups a day and have to now.  it's crazy!  i am now pretty much burned out on lattes and only like my coffee with milk.

now since i know how to make coffee in my pot, i'm afraid that i am going to become a junkie, haha.  good lord, watch out world.

this post has no pics because . . .

my external hard drive crashed.

i am literally sick to my stomach.  i stayed at my sister's last nite and brought my hard drive and computer with me so i could edit and complete my cousin's senior pics.  i was working at the table when dutch walked by and pulled the cords making everything crash onto the tiled floor.  ugh, what a terrible sound.

so yeah.  my whole life is on that drive.  itunes, every single picture i have taken with my dslr. senior pics, wedding pics, vacations, life. everything for my blog, too.

hopefully something can be done about it. until then, i have to revert back to the old ways i guess of saving things, which i can't remember how, haha!

back to the sick to my stomach feeling . . .

sweater weather.

source
not sure about where you all live, but here in the midwest, the weather is ridiculous.  well, i guess i should say the temperature really is, the weather has not been too bad really.  i don't think i have ever disliked the cold as much as i have right now.

it is definitely sweater weather, but i pretty much refuse to wear anything but tanks and cardigans or jackets, or something of the like.  i just don't like things touching my arms really, especially heavy, scratchy material like wool.  sure a cozy fleece or sweater is nice every now and again, but i get so tired of getting bundled up and having to drag a heavy winter coat with me everywhere i go.  not saying i always dress this way, but i just hate dressing too warm.

who else is with me on this.

i know a lot of bloggers live around arizona and out west where it is still warm enough to wear summer clothes and i am so envious.  the only downfall to that is that i cannot imagine having the winter holidays in that type of environment because it would seem so strange to me, but i am not used to that.

we were hoping to live in florida this time next year so this was going to be my last cold fall/winter around these parts, but not sure if those plans are still going as planned, so we will see.  all i know is, i better just get used to it because i still have about 4 more months of this!  for some reason i can tolerate the cold temps if there is snow on the ground, but we don't get as much as we used to . . .

anyway, i'm actually planning on wearing a purple long sleeved cardigan on thanksgiving and if not an orange 3/4 length sheer type shirt, with an infinity scarf, maybe - highs are around 35....blech.  food will make that all seem better though (:

back to the original plan.

back when i started my blog a couple years ago i originally called it, my lively mind, as some of you may remember, because my mind was flooded with way too many thoughts, emotions, and nonsense.  like most bloggers, it was a place i would use for an outlet for all of those things consuming my brain, but rarely did i use it to express those personal feelings.  instead it became a place to document recipes, beauty and hair obsessions, and other lifestyle stuff, which is fine, but not really what i had intended.

i think i'm going to change things up a bit on the ol blog.  i want to use it as way to vent and get those things off my chest when i have something bothering me, need advice, or a thought on my mind.  there are a couple things in mind already, but it's finding time between work and everything else that is going on.  excuses, excuses, i know.

therefore i am holding myself accountable because i have really been slacking on my blog over the last few months and have missed it.  it makes me feel better mentally when i keep up with it and also knowing that people miss the posts and pictures that are published.

happy tuesday and happy week.

late to the game of instagram.

why didn't someone tell me how addicting instagram would be?!  my old phone couldn't get instagram so when i upgraded to the new iphone, you had better bet that was the first app i downloaded.

of course it's just like facebook used to be, checking it every ten minutes to see who has a new picture up, what kind of adventure one may be on, what the latest selfie looks like, or if i have any recent likes or comments.

i love it though, but it really is another social media addiction that i did not need in my life.  i know i'm just like everyone else and get too consumed in everything and i hate that, but i love having a peek into people's lives.

it just amazes me where technology is and i do not even want to imagine where we will be in even five years, wondering what our smartphones will be capable of.

my profile, if you want a deeper peek into my life, and i'd love to see into yours (:

post-surgery thoughts.

friday i had surgery.  if you remember me talking about my issues with body in this post, this was to help fix it.  i won't go into detail because most people get grossed out when it comes to stuff like that, but hopefully i'm on the mend.

if you know me, you know i'm highly anxious and worry incessantly.  for some reason i was not that nervous about surgery.  as i layed in the hospital bed prepping to go in, my mom and i even mentioned that.  i believe she even texted my dad to tell him the same thing.  i think because i have had issues with my periods and everything related since i was a teenager, this was nothing new for me.  if i was having surgery for my heart or cancer, for instance, i can't even imagine how much of a panic i would have been in.

plus, nurses rarely make good patients.  luckily, i think i was a pretty good patient for my nurse, but she is half the reason i felt so at ease, i think.  she was super nice, friendly, and had one of those soothing voices.  she made me feel completely comfortable, explained everything, and was so caring.  it really made me realize how important it is to be caring & empathetic. not just in a hospital setting, but in life in general. it can certainly turn a tough situation into an easier one, or at least tolerable.

if you think about a time when you were uptight, nervous, or dreading something and someone comes along and eases your mind, it can make all the difference in the world.  sure it can't work for every situation, but wouldn't it be nice.

also, it made me realize that we {or i} take my health for granted a lot of time.  so i may never be able to have kids or my hormones might get all screwed up, but at least i'm overall healthy and still able to function in a day-to-day manner. this was a simple outpatient procedure, not something i had to be admitted for and then monitored for days and days. it could have been much worse - or could still get that way, but let's hope it doesn't.

anyway, much of the day was pretty much a blur with lots of sleeping, pain meds, and lounging, but i was still able to remember some.  i really need to start appreciating things more than i do and not take so much for granted.  it's definitely hard, but there are plenty of people that are better than i am about it, so why can't i?

my mom had this cute gem waiting for me as i got out of the operating room.

she's such a sweet blog friend (:

when i got back from here -

i had this waiting for me, wrapped, and shipped from Allison.

before i went to florida, she had seen my post on what's got me down at the moment, mentally & physcially.
little did i know that when she asked for my address, she would be sending me a care package full of my favorite thing - candy!

what a sweetie.  friends like that are really hard to find, especially via the net.

i was so happy when i got home and laid eyes on the sweet surprise.  what a way to make a girl feel better.  i may or may not have devoured them all the next day.  hey, i was born with a sweet tooth, what can i say. . .

tell me, have any of your blog friends ever sent you anything in the mail or given you a gift?

i still can't believe the few really good friends that i've made in this little world of blogging.  a couple of my most loyal and trusted friends are right here and mean the world to me.  although we haven't ever met in person {yet!}, i still feel like we've known each other for ages.

a little blue.

the dream tree has been out of commission for about the last week, if you haven't noticed.

i haven't been feeling the greatest lately, both mentally and physically.  there have been ER visits, doctor visits, hanging out at home and trying to keep my anxiety under control. i was not blessed with a proper functioning female department, if you know what i mean. let's just say it hasn't been a fun last month and we're still going. . .

hopefully i'll be back in just a day or two with some more uplifting, fun posts.

i hate being a negative nancy all the time.  my doctor even told me today that i was a pessimist!

until then, i'll leave you with this cute funny.  dogs are one of the greatest things in life (:

fresh creative ideas on a stormy day.

it seems like every day i have a new goal in mind or a new dream to chase.  i'll give you an example of what today's ideas were.

the day has been full of thunderstorms, flooding, and chilly temps.  not the best day to have a positive attitude because this weather brings me down a bit, but as i was sitting here i was a little bored.  the cleaning got monotonous and facebook was pretty boring, as usual.

i was really, really itching for a craft to do but i had nothing on hand except a blank canvas.  i didn't feel like getting in the car to drive and i was bummed.  no craft today then.

but that doesn't mean i can't do one tomorrow or over the weekend, or even on one of my days off next week.  i love to be creative and i want my house to be styled in lots of my own personal work.  ha! well, i don't really have too many yet, but there are endless possibilities with paint and a canvas, or all of the beads i have collected for jewelry making.

each week, i want to create at least one handmade piece, whether it's a painted canvas, a new necklace or bracelet, a pair of earrings, a bouquet of flowers, or some sort of painted bottle, flower pot, or piece of wood.

i don't let my creative side show enough and i know one day i'm going to regret that.  act now while there's still time and i'm actually able to.

i am really excited to get started because i have a few ideas in mind already that i'll share when i'm done.  i love brainstorming new projects and things to do.

                               ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
what has inspired you lately that has turned into new goals and dreams?

my third sleeping mate.

a while back i wrote a post and mentioned how i sleep with a rice filled cow.  i had several emails asking if i could please explain and possibly even show a picture of this odd creature.  besides the mr. and dutch, i share the bed with yet another guy thing.

over the weekend while i was away having not-so-fun-drunk-sleep, i realized that i really missed this weirdo.  i guess you could say i have to sleep with a stuffed animal every nite, ha!

it all started when my mom bought me one of these cute animals for sore muscles.  you know the drill, you have something similar to where you warm up in the microwave, place on your body, and your aches melt away.  so it started that way, but has turned into a nightly ritual.  honestly, every.single. nite.

he sleeps with me whether it's on my belly, back, or shoulder and it's like i have to have him every nite.  sure he helps out with the aches & pains, but i believe he's turned into a comfort thing as well.  as funny and childish as this sounds, it's so real.  i love my little sleeping buddy.  he even has a name now.

it's actually almost time to get a new one since he has almost run his course, but the place my mom gets them is currently out, so i'll hold on to him for as long as he lasts or doesn't catch on fire.

seriously, if you suffer from aches and pains, get one of these little guys.  he works wonders on cramps as well.  i love having one of these little buddies for my sore muscles or other ailment.  the first one i had was a cute puppy and this little critter is a cow.  curious as to what my next one will be.

do you have any little odd quirks or buddies like mine?

it can't be the end.

via

good lord, it's the friday before christmas already.

i have a migraine going on day 3 now.  not fun, but i'm going to make the best of the day.

here i am last minute shopping again, with 3 people left to buy for.  i tell you - men are so hard to shop for.  us girls, we're easy.  anything to do with hair and makeup, clothes, crafts, food, gift cards...it comes so easy.  but men.  yeah, i'm not sure what i'll get the men in my life.  by that i mean the love, my dad, and bro-in-law.

tonite i've got a friend's birthday party to celebrate.  does this sound fun or what?  we're meeting at the casino/hotel, taking a bus, which will be stocked with drinks to a restaurant, and from there to a chocolate bar. then, back to the hotel to enjoy more drinks, play some board games, drink some more, and then hit up the slot machines.

by the way, what time is the world supposed to end?
i hope it's not before i get all my fun in for the day.  i watched a documentary the other nite on the history channel about 2012 apocalypse and if it goes down the way they talked, i'm just going to lay in bed under the covers while it happens.  it's not gonna happen tho.  remember they way everyone was freaked out about y2k? we're still here.

what are your evening plans? anything fun?

be safe and enjoy (:

changes to le blog!

I had a pretty fun weekend.  I was in my hometown this weekend for my cousin's bachelorette party.   We went to a winery out in the country and it's the most relaxing, peaceful setting in the area.  I wasn't ready to come back and get back to reality!

In other news, the old blog has a new name!  What do you think of The Dream Tree?  I love the name for lots of reasons.  I may be doing a post on that in the near future, but in the meantime, bear with me as I update everything.  I'm definitely a creative person, but not quite so savvy when it comes to blog design.  So it may take a few weeks or so {cringe}

Also, the sexy Janna from Perception is Everything nominated me for the One Lovely Blog Award.  She is one of my best blogging BFFs and I love her.  Thanks girl!

I hope you all have a great week.  We're going on like 3 weeks straight of 100+ degree weather.  I haven't seen heat like this in all my life in St. Louis.  It gets in triple digits a lot, but nothing like this!

the things one thinks about...

I had forgotten how much I like to mow until I did it this afternoon. If you read my post on deep cleaning, then you remember that I like activities that others despise, and this happens to be another. When I lived with my parents I would push mow and use a rider for our huge yard and that took a few hours.  It was also great because it gave me time to clear my head with no distractions and I enjoyed the meticulous act of moving row by row.

Well, today I mowed again for the first time in like a year or so.  I think Eric mowed every time last year and I didn't, so it was my turn today.  Also, we are having a yard sale on Fri & Sat so it was definitely time to get the yard spruced up and a week had gone by since its last haircut.  {I wish you guys were all around to come to the sale - we are virtually getting rid of so much stuff in our house, it's crazy.  I have about 5 totes of just summer clothes I'm parting with, too, so there are some really cool things}

Anyhow, as I was mowing my mind was just flooded with so many thoughts.  It only took me about 45 minutes, but I was amazed at all I thought about.

Here are just some of the things I thought about.

+ My freaking idiot of a neighbor loves to park his truck right out in front of our house since we have huge shade tree.  I literally want to pop a tire and put a scratch in his truck so he'll quit.  It probably wouldn't be a big deal to most, but he's got a damn garage, driveway, and side of his road to park in but he's 'better than us' so it's his right, he thinks.  So I was thinking of how I could somehow lay some rocks down and have the mower fling them into his window and shatter it or how I could somehow drag part of the mower across his paint.  No, I'm really not psycho; he's just a moron!

+  I do not want to go to work tomorrow nite.  I just started nite shift and freaking hate them.  My body doesn't like to be up past 11 and here I am up until 830 in the morning.  I cannot wait to move to days, both mentally and physically, but that's not going to happen soon or at least for a few months.

+  Maybe this dog shit can get flung onto my neighbor's truck.

+ This is my workout for the day!

+  I really need to paint my nails when I get inside.  I have just the perfect color picked out!

+  What cute dress can I get for my cousin's graduation party for next weekend.  I found some really cute ones online, but I don't feel like paying $60 when I saw other cute ones at Ross for $25. Holy good deals that place has.  Anyone go there?  We have a new one by me and it's my new favorite.

+  I am so in love.  My honey is so good to me.  What did I do to deserve him?  I really try not to take him for granted, but I know I do sometimes.  As an extended Mother's Day present {from the doggies}, I got 2 foot massages!

+  We really need to be booking our condo for Florida already.  I'm a planner and like to know when I'll be doing things and certain people in my family like to fly by the seat of their pants.  I used to be that way and realized that it's literally made me nuttier, haha!

+ We are also planning weekend getaways to Chicago, a float trip in Indiana, visiting Eric's family in New York, some festivals up in the Quad Cities, and maybe somewhere else.  Hope we have the money.

+  Speaking of money, our student loans are coming due like next month. @*&!  We have close to $100,000 in student loans now so this definitely puts a damper on the 'ol summer.

+ I went to a friend's reception this past weekend.  Where the hell was pinterest  when I got married?!

Talk about a lively mind.  There were other things that I thought about, but why bore you to tears.  If you made it this far, thanks (:

And, here are some photos from the day:

saturday daydreams // winner.

This morning as I sit here sipping some hot tea in my robe realizing that it's definitely colder this morning than it has been, I'm thinking of our plans for later.  We have a super busy day, but something I'm looking forward to is going to check out a new place to live.  Hopefully by June we can be moved out or at least in the process, but since the days and weeks are moving at super fast speeds, that may not happen.  Bummer.

We have a lot to get done before then.  Make sure our friends want to actually rent our house, get everything organized, throw out, recycle, and sell things we don't need, and well, find a new place.  It's a hard process but no matter what, at least I have a nice place now and a beautiful person to share it with.

Also,

Remember the giveaway I had this week for these items?

Well, the lucky winner is...
Miss Janna!

Thanks to all that entered.  I wish I could give everyone a piece of something, but that's not the way it goes.  I know I'm always bummed when I don't win giveaways, so sorry to those that didn't win!  Hopefully I will have another giveaway in the future.

Enjoy your weekend!

Peace.

I know that peace within myself is something that I constantly strive for.  In this crazy and stressful world, it's easy to be overcome with worries.

I ran across this quote and fell in love.

I know I will never be completely at peace, but if I can at least be calm in my heart it will make a world of difference.

Think about it.

Problems will never be eliminated, but if we can learn to handle them and still carry on, we can be at peace.

I just thought this was a nice saying to start off the weekend.

Love your life.

Happy weekend!

Fluffy, White, & Beautiful

I'm excited.
It's snowing pretty good right now.

I love the snow, but then again I complain about having to drive in it.
Yes, it makes my hour drive home nerve wracking and frustrating, but on the other hand I think it's absolutely beautiful.

Where I live we don't get a lot of it - maybe a few inches a few times a year.  Of course, there are other places that obviously get way more than that and then others that get none.
I should be thankful for it either way.

With the crazy weather system and global climate, who knows how much snow we will get in the years to come.  I definitely need to be appreciative for it and enjoy the small amount we do get.

I would just prefer to have snow all winter long as long as it's going to be cold out, but that's not going to happen unless I move to the north pole and that's not in my plan.

I am definitely a warm weather, beachy person, but I do enjoy a good snow every now and then.

Soon this snow will melt away and turn that ugly brown/black color along the road as it fades away.

I may just spend a few extra minutes in it this evening as I take the dogs out and will throw a few snowballs at Dutch.

Might as well enjoy it while I can!

Sunday Evening Randomness.

I am really strapped for time today and probably for the rest of the week [so there may not be much coming from me], but ran across this the other day from Big Mario Life and thought I would do this since I love filling things like this out!  Feel free to grab and fill out for yourself.  I love learning new things about people!

1. What time did you get up this morning? Alarm was set for 7, but I think I crawled out about 724.

2. How do you like your steak?  I don't do steak really but when I did it was medium-well.  What ruined me on steak was growing up with family who liked theirs rare and then the blood combined with the rest of the food on the plate.  Yuck.

3. What was the last film you saw at the cinema?  Hmm, I can't remember.  I think it was Sherlock Holmes. Never saw the first one so I was completely lost in this one.

4. What is your favorite TV show?  I don't watch too much tv, but when I do it's America's Next Top Model; American Horror Story; Chopped; and Survivor.  I think I'm going to try the Voice and see what it's all about.

5. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?  There are lots of places.  Would love to live in Hawaii, England and Germany would be nice, and so would any of the Scandinavian countries. There are several states in the US I would enjoy as well.

6. What did you have for breakfast?  Today it was pb&j toast.

7. What is your favorite food?  I love toasted ravioli, french fries, and rice; most desserts also.

8. Foods you dislike? a lot of meats, black olives, spam, alfredo sauce, and anything spicy.

9. Favorite place to eat?  I like to eat at home, but I also love to treat myself to crab legs every now and then.

10. Favorite dressing?  A recently found dressing that you all must try - Newman's Family Italian Recipe

11. What kind of vehicle do you drive?  A sporty black Focus.

12. What are your favorite clothes?  Jeans and a tank with my cowboy boots or flip flops; comfy black yoga pants are nice too.

13. Where would you visit if you had the chance?  Greece

14. Cup 1/2 empty or 1/2 full?  I'm trying to be better with my pessimism [I call it being a realist!], but I normally say 1/2 empty....

15. Where would you want to retire?  The lovely Sunshine State.

16. Favorite time of day?  In the mornings when I can get things done.

17. Where were you born?  Illinois.

18. What is your favorite sport to watch?  Hockey!

19. What is your favorite fragrance?  I wear patchouli everyday, but some perfumes I like are Ralph Lauren Romance and Eternal Grace by Philosophy

20. What is your favorite face cream?  The Body Shop's day cream and the nite cream.

21. Favorite baby/kids products?  No kids...

22. People watcher?  Definitely. It's gotten me in trouble a few times actually!

23. Are you a morning or night person?  Definitely a morning person.  I like to be in bed early which is gonna kill me when I have to start working midnites!

24. Do you have any pets?  Yep, down to 2 dogs now.  Dutch & Diddle [Harris]

25. Any new and exciting news you'd like to share?  I start my first nursing job tomorrow!

26. What did you want to be when you were little?  I can't remember and I still don't know what I want to do...

27. What is your favorite memory? The Ford Conventions my family used to go to every year.  We traveled to so many fun places, enjoyed the best outings, and met lots of great people.

28. Are you a cat or dog person?  Dog.

29. Are you married?  Yes, for 3.5 years!

30. Always wear your seat belt?  Always.

31. Been in a car accident?  A couple.  None too serious, but one totaled my car and I had to go to the ER.

32. Any pet peeves?  Poor grammar, slow drivers, girls who wear heels that can't walk in them, know-it-alls.

33. Favorite pizza toppings?  Hamburger and ham, or supreme.  Thin crust.

34. Favorite flower?  Not really into flowers.  I prefer plants.

35. Favorite ice cream?  Good ol vanilla.

36. Favorite fast food restaurant? Is Qdoba fast food? Also like Sonic and Arbys.

37. How many times did you fail your driver's test?  None.

38. From whom did you get your last email? A new friend.

39. Which store would you choose to max out your credit card?  Target, Hobby Lobby, or Anthropologie.

40. Do anything spontaneous lately? No, I'm pretty boring and haven't had the time....

41. Like your job?  I guess I'll find out this week.  I sure hope so though!

42. Broccoli?  Sometimes.

43. What was your favorite vacation?  I have several, but I'm gonna have to say my best has been when I got married in Jamaica.  It was a vacation, wedding, somewhat honeymoon all rolled into one.  We had about 20 people go and we had fun partying and relaxing.

44. Last person you went out to dinner with?  My Love.

45. What are you listening to right now?  The timer counting down the time until our pizza is done and the hockey game is on in the living room.

46. What is your favorite color?  Purple and turquoise.

47. How many tattoos do you have?  Just two.  I love them dearly and I can't wait to get a couple more.

48. Coffee drinker? Nope.  The caffeine mixed with my anxiety isn't a good combo.  So I drink lots of tea now!

New Year Blogging Party Reveal

A few weeks ago I was paired up with the fun-loving, Ronni for the 2012 Blogging Party.

I am super happy that I Ronnie and were chosen for each other because we found we actually both had a lot in common, plus it's always cool to a new friend.

Here are Ronni's gifts to me.  I love them and couldn't be happier with the choices!

here are all of my goodies!

the cute card with a sweet message.

the warm, fuzzy scarf that I cannot wait to wear!

I don't even think I told her, but I collect magnets!
And, we live in the same state, but about 5 hours apart.

Yea, chocolate is my weakness and I can probably have these babies polished off by tonite if I tried.

Here's the sweet message.

This was a lot of fun!  Next time it rolls around, be sure to jump in.  I'm grateful to have met a new friend and the goodies are nice, too (:

Monday, January 30, 2012

oh, Monday.

I woke up this morning feeling like I had been hit by a truck.  I probably had at least 5 attempts at trying to crawl out of bed before 7 but just couldn't.

Not sure why I felt this way; no sleep aids last nite, don't think I'm getting sick....  Maybe it's because my bed is new or maybe it's because we were out until 3a on Saturday and I was running on empty yesterday.  Or, stress!
Don't know.

But I wanted to get up, get the day moving, and plan out some meals for the week.
I don't really have time this week to cook a lot, so I found one of my favorite cookbooks called, '29 minutes to dinner' from Pampered Chef.  I am going to try make all my meals from here since I'll be short on time.

Hopefully I can stay on track this week and not falter like I normally do with meal planning.

Monday: Paprika Chicken & Egg Noodles

Tuesday: Brown Butter Tortellini with Spinach & Ham

Wednesday: Ultimate Peppercorn Burgers

Thursday: leftovers

Friday: eat @ hockey game

Saturday: Grilled Tilapia with Pineapple Salsa

Sunday: super bowl party

This week is going to be super busy for me.  It's getting to be crunch time for taking my boards and I really need to spend more time studying than I am now.  It seems I always, always find other things that need done. That's the a.d.d. in me; can't focus on one thing at a time, ever!

And, I need to make up for lost time yesterday.  I got nothing done yesterday because I went out Saturday nite.  I feel like I wasted an entire day!
Here are a couple of pics from the Sisters Nite, though.

This is how I wore my hair. It was really cute and I got a lot of compliments on it; hopefully I can do a tutorial on it soon!

My sisters & me!

I hope your weekend was fun and you have a fabulous week!
xoxo.
